For some time now, Grace Church has been reaching out to police officers from around Ulster County. Our work began in 2009 when we invited the Ulster County Emergency Services Unit (UCESU) to conduct training scenarios on the church grounds and within our building on Seremma Court. In the Fall of 2010, we had the opportunity to serve among police recruits at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Training Group’s Police Academy (UCLETG). God used this opportunity to reach further into the police community and minister to individuals in a variety of agencies throughout the greater Hudson Valley. We have been introduced to officers from Kingston, Rosendale, New Paltz, Poughkeepsie, Wappingers, Orange and Ulster County Sheriff’s Departments, Plattekill, and SUNY Ulster, just to name a few.
In June 2011 we began providing chaplaincy services to the Ulster Police Department. Police Chaplains minister to the officers and families in their department through hospital visits, shift ride-a-longs, provision of counsel and acts of encouragement. The Chaplain serves as a member of the department’s EAP (Employee Assistance Program) as well a member of the CISM (Crisis Incident Stress Management) team.
Through the Chaplaincy to the Ulster Police Department we believe that God is providing significant opportunities to impact the community for Christ. If you have a heart for ministering to the law enforcement community, you can learn more about how you can serve.
