The Bible teaches that Jesus is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified, arose bodily from the dead, and ascended into heaven and now sits eternally at the right hand of God the Father. The Bible also teaches that as our representative and substitute, Jesus shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection are the only ground for salvation.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Who Jesus is, and what Jesus did for us matters because of what the Bible teaches about the condition of man. The Bible teaches that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. As natural heirs of Adam, all human beings are sinners by nature and by choice and are alienated from God, liable to his judgment and under His wrath. Only through God's saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed. So, unless our sin is paid for we will remain separated from God, waiting for the Day of Judgment and death for our sin and without any hope for the future. Jesus is the answer to our problem of sin so who he is matters a great deal.
